Sustainability is our story

Sustainability is Smalls story. Smalls Merino is a collection of superfine next to skin essentials that never need taking off, with limited need for washing and incredible versatility in wearing. Thoughtful design elements make Smalls seasonless and quality fabric choices ensures longevity.
Smalls Merino launched in Selfridges July 2014 with a mission to re imagine the way we wear wool. How we make Smalls, and the values behind it were and remain as important to us today. Sustainability and traceability have always been at the core of everything we do, right before it was a thing.
We have always been about ‘Slow Fashion’. Slow’ to us means buying less and choosing well. We create luxury essential merino garments that have genuine longevity and traceable provenance, all the dots carefully joined, from farm to fashion.
We ONLY work with ZQ Merino certified farms, ensuring our wool is held to the highest standards of farming, land management and animal welfare. Our fabric mill in Italy is the only one in the world with EMAS certification and 100% vertical supply chain. We have partnered with a family run factory in Portugal to make our Smalls with love.
In the past 18months Smalls have improved traceability and supply chain even further by choosing an even finer ZQ fabric made at an Italian Mill that has a complete vertical supply chain, the only mill on the world to gain EMAS certification for environmental practices, meaning Smalls can identify the collective of farms involved in every roll of fabric used and the resulting carbon footprint is very low. Smalls chooses to pay more per unit on packaging to ensure its completely biodegradable, recently switching from a plastic based heat transfer care label to GOTS cotton. Smalls are made at a family founded factory in Portugal. Their latest collection includes a “Perfect Slip’ the which is worn both for sleep and under summer dresses. Merinos natural body temperature regulating properties mean it’s perfect for both day and night, keeping the wear warm when it’s cool and cool when its warm.
